As I sit to write this blog, I realize that it’s been a while since our last blog. When I initially thought about the delay, I immediately thought about the fact that it’s summer, kids are out of school, schedules are gone, as is time alone, but we have been having good summer fun spent with family and friends. However, after I thought about it a little more I realized that I have been spending a lot of time volunteering for my sport, I have been spending time volunteering for my sport, working on establishing a chapter of Girls On The Run here in Chalreston, SC. There is a TON of work that goes into gaining approval for a ‘council’ here, but the payoff will be amazing. In our busy lives it’s sometimes hard to think outside of our immediate activities—-family, personal, work—however, it’s important to take the time to step back and give back even when we feel that there is no more time to give.
Schools out for summer! No more routine for the kids, which often means a huge change in our schedules as well. Siobhan and I are struggling with the fact that our kids are in that “in-between” stage – too old to go to the kids club at the gym, and too young to be left home alone. So how do we get our workouts in this summer?
For many of us, summer is officially here…the kids are out of school, the days are getting warmer, our motivation is waning just as our desire to sit by the pool and drink a nice frozen drink is growing. How can we possibly maintain our devotion and dedication to staying fit and healthy when our friends are inviting us to their house for a summer party? How can we go for a run when our family is laying on the couch looking so comfy and all we want to do is cuddle up next to them…? If this description sounds like you, then it might be time for a fitness challenge.
